After 20 successful years in the corporate world, Amy Boesen was ready for a big change. "I knew I didn't want another corporate career. A franchise offered a wonderful alternative to that world. I could be my own boss but still have the support of a larger organization."
Amy decided she wanted to run her own interior decorating business. She had strong business skills and a BA in Textiles, Clothing and Design. Amy discovered Decor & You while searching for an interior decorating business on the internet. "Decor & You seemed ideal. I wanted to pursue the creative side of decorating, have a flexible schedule, and there was big appeal for me that it was a franchise," says Amy.
Amy signed her ownership agreement in December 2003 and was up and running by March 2004.

"I'm thrilled with my decision," says Amy. "The training was great. I had been fearful going in to it that I wouldn't learn enough to feel comfortable. My fears were put to rest. They covered a wide range of topics-like measuring for window treatments, etc.-in enough depth that I was prepared to work with my first client when I got home."
"I am a self-starter and pretty self-reliant, but the home office is there when I need them. They are very knowledgeable and responsive, and I know I can rely on them for solutions when I get stuck," says Amy.
Balancing Family & Work
Amy is married and her oldest child is now in college, while her youngest is in high school. Amy says it is easier now to balance family and work than when she worked for Corporate America.
"In the beginning, as with any venture, it takes a lot of hours. But, I have the flexibility to be able to make time for my family on my own terms. I also love that it's a home-based business." says Amy.
